The first day of the Power Cup kicked off on Thursday in a fantastic atmosphere and changing weather in Helsinki. The tournament officially began at exactly 12 noon, when event director Anna Komu blew the traditional whistle on the Power Market stage, and the first matches of the tournament started.
Throughout the day, the fields were filled with enthusiastic players and impressive team performances. The familiar Power Cup spirit filled the air, as competition and the joy of playing together went side by side.
The evening’s opening ceremony brought together a huge crowd. The event area was packed with players, coaches, support staff, and curious visitors who had come to celebrate the start of the tournament together. The atmosphere grew even more electric when Ares took the stage; everyone in the crowd got excited and sang along.
The opening ceremony also featured a heartwarming visit from the Finnish men’s national volleyball team, who came to greet the tournament crowd. The presence of the national team players gave the young players a chance to see their role models up close and served as a reminder of the paths that lie ahead for these enthusiastic junior volleyball players.
Paavo Arhinmäki, Helsinki’s Deputy Mayor for Sports and Leisure, delivered the city’s greeting to the event attendees. In his remarks, he welcomed the participants to Helsinki and highlighted the importance of sports, community, and youth activities.
The first day offered exactly what one can expect from the Power Cup: the joy of sports, new friends, shared experiences, and unforgettable memories. The tournament continues on Friday with new matches as the teams set out to achieve further successes on the courts. In addition, a memorable evening is in store at Veikkaus Arena, as the Veljekset have invited all Power Cup participants to the stands for the European League home tournament.
