Power Cup, the world’s largest volleyball tournament for children and youth was a great success. The tournament was played from Thursday to Sunday in Loimaa. 824 teams and more than 6000 players enjoyed volleyball in good weather and great facilities.
In total, 255 000 minutes were played in 4,250 matches at the Loimaa Power Cup, which means almost half a year!
In addition to the Finnish teams, this time there were more than 60 teams from Estonia, Latvia and Norway.
The number of teams and participants is the highest since the 2018 tournament in Kuopio and 78 more than last year.
The youngest players in the tournament were 5 years old and the oldest 22.
In 21 categories, 17 different clubs were crowned champions and a total of 39 clubs won medals. Salon Viesti, Riga Volleyball School (Latvia), Blues Volley Järvenpää and Junnu Tigers all won two gold medals.
Power Cup event director Anna Komu:
– The 40th anniversary of the Power Cup was a great event. At the heart of the Power Cup is the encouragement of children and youth to be active, and during the four days of the event, we were able to share great emotions and memories.
– The Power Cup is a great way to bring out the joy of sport and physical activity, which is reflected in the happy faces and joyful laughter of the participants, whether it’s rainy or sunny in the sky. Or something in between.
– A big thanks to all participants, visitors, Janko & Hurrikaani and volunteers. Now let’s rest for a while and look forward to next summer’s event.
Power Cup Local Manager Katariina Kojo:
– A very happy, reliefed and delighted feeling. When we got around 1,000 volunteers in the spring, there was so much positive feeling that we have gone forward with it.
– The cooperation with the Volleyball Association has worked really well. It has been our support and security, a big thanks to Anna and everyone else for the great cooperation. And you can’t deny the importance of the weather: it made this easier in many ways.
– Around one third of the 15 000 people in Loimaa were involved in some way in organising or playing in this event! A huge thanks to them.
The next big steps for the future of the Power Cup will be taken in Helsinki. The next two years, 2026 and 2027, will be held in our capital, which combines strong infrastructure, responsible accessibility and international appeal.
– Helsinki offers us a unique opportunity to develop the event on many levels. It’s not just about location – this is a strategic step towards international growth and strengthening the Power Cup’s position as the biggest junior volleyball festival in Europe,” says Riia Martinoja, Director of Events and Marketing at the Finnish Volleyball Association.
